Not Feeling Exactly Right? Thyroid Check Needed
Optimal functioning of the thyroid glands is critical to your wellbeing.
If you suffer from certain symptoms it could be due to your thyroid and you may be unaware that there is something wrong with your thyroid glands.
The Thyroid is a bi-lobular gland that controls the energy usage in your body. The glands normally produce the correct amount of thyroid hormones to meet your body”s requirements.
But, the efficient production of your thyroid hormones can be messed up by the presence of a thyroid nodule.
A nodule is a swelling or lump within a section of your thyroid gland. It can cause the glands to either create an excess of hormones or provide an inadequate amount.
Thyroid nodules can be either solid or filled with fluid or blood, they could be small, painless and you may not even notice the swelling. Usually, it's firm, smooth and easily felt through the skin when large enough. Treatment of thyroid nodules depends on the nature of the nodule.
Symptoms stemming from a compromised thyroid gland cover a wide range of health problems. Some symptoms of thyroid problems include palpitations, insomnia, weight loss, anxiety, and tremors. These symptoms are commonly seen in hyperthyroidism because of excess hormone production.
On the other hand, with hypothyroidism common symptoms seen are weight gain, fatigue, depression, hair loss all due to deficient hormone production. Thyroid performance can be affected by such things as your weight, age, medications or even some health conditions.
It's important to manage any concerns about your 'not quite so right feelings'. If you do not feel exactly right or you can”t put your finger on what's wrong, stop wondering and seek help.
If you feel run down, fatigued, or have dry skin, muscle aches, brittle nails, increased sweating or clammy hands or notice a neck nodule or swelling; consult with your physician.
